STAR 93.3 (WAKW) played Christmas music beginning Monday, September 24th at 3 pm until Tuesday morning, September 25th at 10 am. STAR 93.3 transformed into “Cincinnati’s Christmas STAR” in honor of Brody Allen and his family. Brody is a two and a half-year-old boy from Cincinnati who has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer. His neighborhood, and now the entire city is rallying around this family to help bring the holidays a few months early. The outpouring of love started with a few people helping to decorate the Allen’s house for Christmas. Soon, neighbors decorated their houses too. Crossroads church even visited Brody’s house to sing Christmas carols. A Christmas parade was even held this past Sunday.
“When we found out that the Allen family was treating the 24th and 25th of this month as their Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, we wanted to provide a soundtrack for them to make memories to,” said Director of Programming, Jeff Evans.
STAR 93.3 played only Christmas music during this time and invited listeners to call in to wish Brody and his family a Merry Christmas. “We were hoping to bring a little bit of the Holiday season to the radio for an extended period of time in hopes that it would help it sound like Christmas in the Tri-State for Brody and his family. We were also excited to give listeners a chance to personally wish Brody a Merry Christmas,” said Evans.
It’s estimated that the station received over 1,000 phone calls and thousands more Christmas wishes on social media.
CCM artists even got involved. STAR played personal greetings from artists who called the station like Matthew West, Amy Grant, Hannah Kerr, Aaron Schust, Marc Martel, Josh Baldwin, Josh Wilson, Cory Asbury, and Chris Brown from Elevation Worship.
