Austin, TX, August 12, 2019 – The Texas Association has honored 90.9 KCBI, Dallas, and its volunteers with the 2019 Bonner McLane Public Service Award.
Food on the table. A pair of new shoes for school. Your own home. Many of us take these things for granted, but they seem to be out of reach for people like KCBI listener Emily Stoddard, who, along with her three children, had been homeless before other KCBI listeners worked with Habitat for Humanity to help make her dream of home ownership come true.
In 2018, KCBI, partnering with Buckner International, Habitat for Humanity and Mission Arlington, offered listeners the opportunity to share the love of Jesus with Emily’s and other North Texas families through its Summer of Service. In June, over 100 KCBI volunteers worked on Habitat builds in Collin County, Dallas, Fort Worth and Garland. On the Summer of Service Day in July, about 200 more boxed up 1,500 pairs of shoes to give to kids in need at the Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls Warehouse and prepared back-to-school backpacks, sorted clothing and more for those served by Mission Arlington. Nearly 320 KCBI volunteers total showed up with their great big hearts during Summer of Service 2018. Then, in August, listeners donated nearly 2,500 pairs of shoes for kids who need them most through Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls – just in time for back to school.
Doreen was one of the KCBI volunteers who helped make all the difference to Emily and her children. “I went to the Habitat for Humanity thing this weekend. It was so wonderful – just working all together, sharing our faith, giving to the community!”
Matt Austin, the General Manager and Vice President of KCBI, is grateful for volunteers like Doreen. “We are privileged to express needs in the community, but our listeners and volunteers responded passionately and in tremendous numbers to make a difference in North Texas. We view this award as an honor to all who came out to bless others!”
90.9 KCBI, Encouraging Music … Words of Hope, is grateful to be recognized with the TAB 2019 Bonner McLane Public Service Award.
