So many chances to engage your audience during the holidays!
Here’s some holly jolly nuggets to try on your show! You can use these idea starters to tell a personal story, to build an on air discussion with a co-worker, build a phone discussion by inviting listeners in, to build a bit with special music/movie clips/nostalgia moments or frame these into social media discussions.
Think about the decades you first celebrated Christmas in. Pick one and zero in on how a person in that decade would respond if they knew about how we’d be celebrating Christmas in the future. What part of Christmas 2017 would shock someone from 1982? Laser lights on the house? Explaining Amazon? Reading the Christmas story off your phone… the fact that A Christmas story became legendary? How would Bing Crosby or Nat King Cole respond if they knew then, how your family was celebrating Christmas this year?
Surviving Christmas with difficult family members… Did you ever get creative w/ disappearing for a bit… for sanity sake? Where did you hide? Where did you go? How do you make people feel welcome who you don’t particularly have much in common with?
Have you ever dedicated yourself one year to focus on more on the spiritual side of Christmas more than the cultural? What did you do to enhance your worship? Maybe working in the idea of preparation through Advent? Maybe a blog like this might spark some idea starters: https://keeperofthehome.org/the-3-gift-christmas/ or this article about Advent: https://www.christianity.com/christian-life/christmas/what-is-advent.html
How likely is a white Christmas in your town? Throw out a percentage and have a co host/intern/co worker take a guess. Is it higher or lower (use the Hi/Lo or Price is Right SFX to make a bit out of it.) Here’s a link to the percentages: https://www.msn.com/en-us/weather/topstories/how-likely-is-a-white-christmas-in-your-city/ss-BBEVOvs

Had fun with this bit last Christmas: “Over thinking Home Alone!” (Play a couple of the songs from that movie under you ask you talk about this to bring back the nostalgia) How did the professional burglars not put together that thought it looks like 50 people are partying inside… there’s no cars out front!!
