In recent weeks we’ve shared call in discussion topics and bit ideas for Christmas, so this week we’ll share some spiritual idea starters related to Christmas from CreativeCardio.com.
A series of short Christmas thoughts from John Piper based on Christmas carols:
Christmas is the day that God publicly stamped and expiration date on sin, evil & death. It’s just a matter of time. -Benji Cowart. The second chapter of Luke in the Bible tells the story about Jesus birth. Advent is a season observed by many churches as a time of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus at Christmas. Advent means “coming”. Let’s use the next couple weeks to truly prepare our hearts for the significance of what God did through Jesus at Christmas.
Matt Maher has some great thoughts on Advent here. One of the things he said that really made me think was this:
“Much of our culture spends December preparing for an event, but the church calls us to prepare for a person. You see when we prepare for the event of Christmas I’m not sure it does the person Justice.”
Here’s a blog from Simply Living 101 talking about verses that we can still look forward to through Jesus.
Peter also gave some words of wisdom in regards to preparing our hearts for the coming of Christ. He said:
“Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance, but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; because it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” -1st Peter 1:13-16
